This month’s Employee Spotlight is on Project Coordinator, Abdul Tubman! We asked him a series of fun questions in a Q&A format, read below!

“What are 3 words you would use to describe yourself?”

I would describe myself as an impresario, an African diasporan, and a community builder.

“What are your hobbies and interests outside of work?”

I serve as the Director of Operations for CORNERS Community, a nonprofit dedicated to supporting the underprivileged Black community in Stamford, CT. I’m currently working on my first book and recently wrote the foreword for Being Black in America’s Schools, which was published this past summer. In addition to my work in community service, I also produce Off-Broadway theater and short films, with highlights including a production in the Rave Theater Festival and a short film that premiered at the Chelsea Film Festival.

As a public speaker and educator, I teach African American history, which aligns with my passion for activism and cultural preservation. In my personal time, I love watching movies, and visiting museums, and have recently taken up oil painting. I’m also an avid cook and find that my kitchen is my happy place. Cooking is something I truly excel at and enjoy deeply.

“What is something you can’t live without?”

I couldn’t live without my community, good food, and music.

Abdul visited Harriet Tubman’s childhood home, the Brodress Farm, last summer, where Harriet first escaped and took her first steps towards freedom.

“What do most people not now about you?”

Both of my great grandfathers were political figures in Africa. My paternal great grandfather was President William V.S. Tubman, the 19th President of Liberia where I was born, and my maternal great grandfather was a Governor of the coastal region of Kenya and Knighted by Queen Elizabeth II.

I also have an IMDB page, but I don’t know who made it.

“What gets you up in the morning?”

What gets me up in the morning is the drive to create a lasting impact in my community and beyond. Whether it’s through my work with CORNERS Community, where I’m dedicated to uplifting the underprivileged Black community in Stamford, CT, or through the stories I tell as a theater and film producer, I’m motivated by the opportunity to build connections, foster understanding, and inspire change. I’m passionate about uniting the African diaspora, sharing African history, and advocating for justice and empowerment through my activism, public speaking, and teaching.

I find joy in creative expression—whether it’s writing my first book, exploring new artistic pursuits like oil painting, or cooking meals that bring comfort and happiness. Each day is a chance to move closer to my vision of a more united, thriving, and inspired community, and that’s what drives me forward.
